NEW CAPABILITIES

THE MULTILINKER ADAPTIVE LEARNING SYSTEM

The  MultiLinker adaptive learning system is integrated into the MultiLex electronic dictionary. Multilinker makes the study of a foreign language much quicker and efficient. When you view Microsoft Word documents and Outlook Express (versions XP and later) e-mail messages, MultiLinker highlights the terms in the text for which translations were previously found in the MultiLex dictionary.

You can quickly find the translation and a list of all word forms for any such word, or play an audio pronunciation of it using the speech synthesizer integrated into MultiLex:

The highlighting of words and the ability to quickly obtain additional information enables users to quickly learn the dictionary material covered.  

100% AUDIBLE PRONUNCIATION

Any text in MultiLex (Russian, English, German, French, Spanish or Italian) can be audibly pronounced by the special speech synthesis software:

This applies to both the system dictionaries and user-created dictionaries, and any text entered into the input line of comments on a dictionary entry!

Microsoft provided the audio services.

PERFECTED POP-UP TRANSLATION

You only need to click the mouse button once to quickly obtain the translation of an unfamiliar word. Translation can be performed in MS Office documents or web sites. Furthermore, even text contained in graphic interfaces in other programs can now be translated.

NEW USER INTERFACE

The MultiLex interface is now more advanced and ergonomic. It is so flexible that a user can “design” and create settings for the main window that are best. The size and shape of the windows and the selection and location of the toolbars can be changed. The font, font size and software interface language can also be set by the user. The dictionary entry can be managed: font and font size, show/hide transcriptions, examples of usage, accent marks, and highlighting of search results. There are two user modes: standard and simplified.

In standard mode, the MultiLex main window looks like this:

In simplified mode, the MultiLex main window is rather small, so you can use the dictionary conveniently in background mode when using other attachments:

MULTILINGUAL SHELL

The MultiLex dictionary shell has become multilingual, and now a single interface can be used to access the dictionary databases in 10 different language combinations.

The number of language collections is unlimited: you can add any number of user-created dictionaries to the 5 system collections (English, German, French, Spanish and Italian).

CONTENTS OF DICTIONARY AND DISPLAY OF SEARCH RESULTS

In contrast to previous versions of MultiLex, where only one dictionary could be active and the search results only included entries from this one active dictionary, in Version 5.0 the list of Contents is a summary of the content of all dictionaries in the collection, and the search results will be a list of entries found in all those dictionaries. The sequence in which the information is displayed will be determined by the dictionary priorities selected by the user.  

MAINTAINING USER DICTIONARIES

The capabilities for independent work with the electronic dictionary have been expanded significantly by perfecting the functions for maintaining user dictionaries. Now, using MultiLex you can create as many user dictionaries as you want in any language combinations. You choose the titles for these dictionaries. You can create professional-quality user dictionaries with the easy-to-use text editor and a series of special tools. They can include phonetic transcription, abbreviations, comments, examples of usage, or special standard designations.

VIEW WORD FORMS

Version 5.0 has a new function that can’t be overestimated when studying a language: the ability to view paradigms of any word in the MultiLex dictionary database or entered into the entry line or the comments on a dictionary entry.

DICTIONARY EXPORT/IMPORT

The user dictionary export and import  function has been perfected. Now, users of previous versions of MultiLex (4.0 and 3.5) can connect their dictionaries to Version 5.0, and MultiLex 5.0 users can exchange their work with each other.

USING DIACRITICAL MARKS

The problems in using words with diacritical marks have been solved. Now, the diacritical marks are not lost when such words are copied to the clipboard and the pasted. This applies to both copying from MultiLex and pasting into MS Word, for example, and to copying words in the opposite direction, for example, when copying from Internet Explorer and entering in MultiLex.

The search for words with diacritical marks has also been simplified: now, you can enter a word without its diacritical marks in the entry line, and it will be found! For example, if you enter the German word abandern as “abandern”, you will still get the correct translation: (видо)изменять, вносить изменения во что-л.

There are two interchangeable methods for entering characters with diacritical marks for users who don’t have the proper keyboard formats. Now, you can enter letters using a special toolbar, or using hot keys in the English keyboard format.  

REGISTERING MULTILEX

The procedure for registering the MultiLex electronic dictionaries has been simplified. Now, you can register the product semi-automatically, directly online in the MultiLex user interface. Just select Reference/Registration... in the main menu...
